We are happy to announce the healthy arrival of Conquistador, full brother to Vaquero Gold, and so much like his brother that we could almost have used VG's baby photos all over again, so much does the new baby look like his older brother on the day he was born!
The two differences are that the new baby has only one white hind foot, and he has a star on his forehead (which resembles the continent of South America). Because his coat is the same shade as VG's on birth, we anticipate that he will shed out to be a golden dun with strong leg bars and dorsal stripe.
Conquistador (also known as "Nugget") was born on July 26, 2007 at approximately 2pm. Ramira took care of business as usual, with minimal fuss and bother. Like all her babies, Conquistador is ultra-friendly and extremely drawn to humans, coming immediately to the fence to greet anyone who approaches. He insists upon being the center of attention, the star of the show, and is irritated if his mother ignores him for even a few moments. While she tries to eat, he chews on her ears and bumps her lowered head with his body, as if to say, "ME! It's all about ME! Why aren't you paying attention to ME!" He is a character.
Conquistador has three full siblings: Chiquita (golden dun filly born 2003), Vaquero Gold (golden dun studcolt born 2004), and Isabella de Guzman, bay filly born 2006. He has at least a dozen half-siblings by Santiago, including our own Dulcinea (black filly born 2004 out of a Kiger/QH mare) and Vaquero Silver (silver grulla born this year out of Wildfire).

Theme Song:
"Conquistador" lyrics by Keith Reid Album: Procul Harum 1967
Conquistador your stallion stands in need of company and like some angel's haloed brow you reek of purity I see your armour-plated breast has long since lost its sheen and in your death mask face there are no signs which can be seen
And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind Conquistador a vulture sits upon your silver shield and in your rusty scabbard now the sand has taken seed and though your jewel-encrusted blade has not been plundered still the sea has washed across your face and taken of its fill
And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind Conquistador there is no time I must pay my respect and though I came to jeer at you I leave now with regret and as the gloom begins to fall I see there is no, only all and though you came with sword held high you did not conquer, only die
And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind
